Response on GPush Update 1.5

Apple approved a new version of GPush and some users have voiced concern over the view icon, which launches the app when swiping open the iPhone from sleep mode. Please note this is a limitation in the iPhone OS. To resolve this issue, we beta tested a new version allowing you to opt-out of the ability to view email from the notification. This will have the effect that if a notification is on the standby screen, GPush will not launch when you swipe open the iPhone. For those who would like to continue viewing emails from the notification, you will have the choice of launching the GMail client inside the app or the mail app itself. The mail app will display the "compose new message" page, once again based on the limitations in the iPhone OS. This update will support viewing capabilities for Google Domain users as well.

New features in the upcoming update include:

  • Quiet Hours
  • Viewing support for Google Domains
  • Option to remove View icon, which avoids launching GPush when the iPhone is turned on from standby
  • If you would like to view email from notification, you can choose to either launch the Gmail client or the Mail App's compose new message page

Response to Google Sync's Push Gmail:

Today Google announced the launch of Push GMail through the mail app using Microsoft Exchange. While it has value for many users, there are limitations to this service.

  1. The iPhone only supports one Exchange account. If you already have exchange setup, you will have to replace your preexisting account.
  2. Google Push GMail sender / subject line not displayed
  3. Speed
  4. More battery usage since email is constantly downloaded, unlike with GPush, which downloads only when the mail app is launched.

GPush works for Google Voice Notifications:

Using GPush, you can now receive Google Voice notifications. Please go into your Google Voice Settings and choose SMS Forwarding & Voicemail notifications. You will then receive a push notification from GPush whenever you receive a text or voicemail to your Google Voice Account.

App Update submitted with new features including:

  • Ability to view email by clicking on notification via auto-login to GMail
    Web Client
  • Seven new sound alert choices created by one of our users, Ryan Trevisol
  • Support for symbols in GMail password
  • Options to clear the badge number and unregister

To the small percent of users who are still experiencing issues:

Your app is communicating with our servers, but certain email accounts (roughly 3%) consistently become disconnected from GMail's servers, leading to missed notifications. We are still working on the resolution with the GMail team. In the interim, please try and submit other credentials to refresh your account on the server. Afterward, please try your account again. If you are still having issues, one workaround is to have GPush work for a new GMail account where your email gets forwarded to. This would notify you of new email, and when you launch the mail app you would still be responding from your pre-existing GMail account. You would have to turn badge notifications off first in this case to ensure you do not see "unread messages" when they are read.

Dear GPush users,

GPush now operates smoothly for nearly all users. Since August 21st, we have received almost 300 reviews in iTunes, with an average star rating of 4.5 out of 5.

There are two known causes for GPush to function improperly for a small number of users:

  • 3% of users consistently lose connection to Gmail for notifications. This is not an issue with GPush itself, but rather with Google servers not accepting the connection. We are working directly with the Gmail team to resolve this.
  • A handful of users have a complicated character in their Gmail password. This prevents them from having their credentials accepted through GPush. The current work around is to simply change the password to contain standard letters and numbers. A GPush update should be available within the week, per Apple's approval, that will enable the GPush community to use any character that is supported by the iPhone.

Thank you,

Team GPush

Dear GPush users,

Great Progress
Yesterday was a breakthrough day. The app is now working seamlessly for almost all of our users and the response on Twitter and iTunes reviews is now incredibly positive. If you turned GPush notifications off, try and give the app another go.

What if my notifications dropped off?
We are working directly with Google's Gmail team on understanding why some user's connection drops off. If this is an issue for you, please feel free to send us an email with your IP address - you can find it by going to www.whatismyip.com from your iPhone. We will need your permission to send that information along to Google.

What if my credentials were refused?
The main cause for credentials being refused is too many open connections with Gmail. The easiest way to resolve this issue is by providing your Gmail credentials here. If this does not help, please send an email to support@tiveriasapps.com.

Troubleshooting issues addressed
Many users have been in touch with our support team by email and we just wanted to make you aware of troubleshooting issues other users are experiencing.

  • The three notifications settings are controlled from the iPhone settings screen, not the application
  • If credentials are refused, a likely cause is too many open connections with Gmail. This can be resolved by unlocking your Gmail account here.
  • The badge number changes instantly when emails are deleted or archived, not from reading the email
  • For the service to work, IMAP must be enabled in Gmail from the settings screen

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns feel free to send us an email to support@tiveriasapps.com.

Thank you,

Team GPush

Dear GPush users,

We are diligently working through the notification issues that the GPush community has brought to our attention. Most login credentials have been resolved and we continue testing solutions for why, in some cases, notifications are inconsistent. We continue to receive great feedback from the GPush community, and we continue to encourage users to send us their input at support@tiveriasapps.com.

If you have previously emailed Tiverias Apps' support email, we will make sure to notify you when the issues you have brought to our attention have been resolved.

Thank you,

Team GPush

Dear GPush users,

Most Credentials Should Now Be Accepted
Some Users from the GPush community have raised concern over their credentials being refused. At this time, unless the user attempts to submit credentials while the server is updating, the user should be able to login without an issue.

Delayed or Missed Notifications
Thank you to all our users who have sent us emails letting us know about the issues you are facing with GPush. The main concern currently being raised by our user community is delayed or missed notifications. Please know that the programming team has isolated a few points in the notification process where the error seems likely to be occurring and are addressing the issue. Once the problem is resolved, the code will be uploaded to the servers and users will not need to download the application again.

If you would like to get in touch with someone from Tiverias Apps, feel free to email us at support@tiveriasapps.com.

Best,

Team GPush

Dear GPush users,

Yesterday we launched GPush with our servers fully scaled to meet the needs of a growing customer base. At its peak usage, our servers were at 2% of server load. Yet, some users have experienced connection and notification issues. We are aware of these issues and are working on resolving them as quickly as possible.

Noted issues reported by users:

  • The badge number gets stuck in place
  • Senders names are scrambled
  • Old emails are pushed
  • Delayed or missed notifications
  • Credentials being refused
  • No recognition of non-English characters

If you experience any of these issues, feel free to email us at support@tiveriasapps.com.

Please note the issues these users are facing were not seen in the last round of beta testing and it may take a bit of time to fully resolve them. We understand that an app designed to notify users of email, if not working properly, can be quite obtrusive. Our goal is to solve the problems people face with email notification on the iPhone. This includes ensuring GPush works as seamlessly as the iPhone allows, as well as making regular updates to the application based on the requests and reactions of our user base. To that effect we have already started working on our first update, which will be recognition of non-English characters.

Best,

Team GPush

Dear GPush users,

Thank you for taking the time to find out the latest with GPush. Yesterday, we ran a large-scale beta test, with over 1000 people connected to our servers and we received very positive responses. With all the existing users, we are still running at less than 1% of the server load. Today, however, some users have notified us of their credentials being refused or their notifications not working properly. Below is some troubleshooting info that may help you out:

Credentials being refused may be caused by having unique characters in your password such as Dollar ("$"), Ampersand ("&"), Plus ("+"), Comma (","), Forward slash/Virgule ("/", Colon (":"), Semi-colon (";"), Equals ("="), Question mark ("?")'At' symbol ("@")..

While we resolve this issue, it may help to change your Gmail password.

If you are not receiving notifications, please make sure you are not in airplane mode. Once that is set, please try to restart your phone, change GMail password, resubmit credentials, and make sure that push notification in the iPhone settings are turned on. If you continue having issues, please know that new bugs emerged today with the release, and we are currently working on them. To provide us with more info about your problem, please send an email to support@tiveriasapps.com.

Best,

Team GPush
